What is Valium 5mg?

Valium 5mg is a yellow-colored round-shaped tablet containing 5mg of active ingredient diazepam. Excipients of Valium 5mg tablets include corn starch, lactose, pregelatinized starch, calcium stearate, and FD&C Yellow No. 6 and D&C Yellow No. 10 as color additives.

Valium is an anticonvulsant and a derivative of benzodiazepine drug class. 

What is the use of Valium?

Valium 5mg tablets are useful for the treatment of:

• Anxiety
• Alcohol withdrawal
• Muscle spasm
• Premedication in endoscopic procedures (adjunct treatment)
• Preoperative sedation
• Seizure disorder

How is it used?

Anxiety: Give 2mg to 10mg, two to four times a day, as needed.

Alcohol withdrawal: Give 10mg three to four times in the first 24 hours, reduce to 5mg given three to four times daily.

Muscle spasm: Give 2mg to 10mg three to four times a day.

Premedication in endoscopy: Give 5mg to 20mg as required as a premedication.

Preoperational sedative: Give 5mg to 20mg as oral medication before the surgery.

Seizure disorder: Give 2mg to 10mg two to four times daily.

Geriatric or debilitated patients: Give 2mg to 2.5mg one to two times a day when initiating, gradually increasing the doses as tolerated and needed by the patient.
